Verse for the week: “the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mt 20.28
Prayer for the week:
Lord God, heavenly Father, in your Son you have given the world a
pioneer of salvation and made him the true and eternal priest and mediator of
his people. Grant that we may hold fast
to him in love, learn obedience in his discipleship, and so be brought into the
heavenly sanctuary through him, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy
Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Bible reading for the day: Mark 10.32-34
And they were on the road, going up to Jerusalem,
and Jesus was walking ahead of them. And they were amazed, and those
who followed were afraid. And taking the twelve again, he began to tell them
what was to happen to him, 33 saying, “See, we
are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the
chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death
and deliver him over to the Gentiles. 34 And
they will mock him and spit on him, and flog him and kill him.
And after three days he will rise.”
Prayer (based on TRIP*method): Gracious and almighty Father, following
your Son amazes us and causes us to be afraid… for his end is ours… the death
of our pride and the end of our devotion to the things of man. Thank you for
convicting me and your whole church by your Holy Spirit; otherwise we would not
follow him… and thus never know true life now and in eternity. Thank you, Lord,
in Jesus’ name. Amen.
“I believe in Jesus Christ…”
What does this mean?
I believe that Jesus Christ — true God, begotten of the
Father from eternity, and also true man, born of the Virgin Mary — is my Lord.
He has redeemed me, a lost and condemned creature, and has freed me from sin,
death, and the power of the devil, not with silver and gold, but with his holy
and precious blood and his innocent suffering and death. He has done all this
in order that I might be his own, live under him in his kingdom, and serve him
in everlasting righteousness, innocence, and blessedness, even as he is risen
from the dead and lives and reigns for all eternity. This is most certainly
true! (from The Small Catechism, by
Martin Luther ©Reclaim Resources, Sola Publishing, 2011)
Benediction: Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and through grace gave us eternal comfort and good hope, comfort your hearts and strengthen them in every good work and word. Amen. II Thess 2.16-17
