Where to get the righteousness that will never be dismayed

Verse for the week:  Behold, the kingdom of God is among you.  Luke 17.21

Prayer for the week: “Lord, you have promised to grant what we pray in the name of your Son.  Teach us to pray aright and to laud and praise you with all your saints in the fullness of life everlasting; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.” (K.B. Bible reading for the day:  Isaiah 51.1-6 (note: Our forebears’ pride and rejection of the Lord landed them in nearly 50 years of exile in Babylon, 587-539 BC. Now the Lord is restoring them and giving them a fresh start.)

¹ “Listen to me, you who pursue righteousness,
    you who seek the Lord:
look to the rock from which you were hewn,
    and to the quarry from which you were dug.
² Look to Abraham your father
    and to Sarah who bore you;
for he was but one when I called him,
    that I might bless him and multiply him.
³ For the Lord comforts Zion;
    he comforts all her waste places
and makes her wilderness like Eden,
    her desert like the garden of the Lord;
joy and gladness will be found in her,
    thanksgiving and the voice of song.

Prayer (based on T.R.I.P. method*): Gracious and almighty Father, thank you: all depends on your sovereign call; from your promise to one old couple you brought a whole new nation…and everlasting salvation all the way to us. Thank you! As our nation’s ears grow increasingly proud and each one’s ears itch to hear his own rightness, call me and your whole church to pay attention to the righteousness that will never be dismayed.  Give us ears for your instruction rather than our own will…that your justice may be the light to us and to all nations. I ask this in Jesus’ name, amen.

“Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven…

What does this mean?

The good and gracious will of God is done indeed without our prayer, but we pray in this petition that it will also be done among us.

How is this done?

God's will is done when he hinders and defeats every evil design and purpose of the devil, the world, and our sinful nature that would keep us from hallowing his name and prevent the coming of his kingdom. And God’s will is done when he strengthens our faith and keeps us firm in his Word to the end of our earthly lives. This is his good and gracious will.  (from The Small Catechism).

*The T.R.I.P. approach to prayer is based on the way Martin Luther prayed and taught others to pray.  It was later developed by Walter and Ingrid Trobisch and then adapted by Mount Carmel Ministries (Alexandria, MN).  The method is founded on scripture and easy to remember:
T: thanksgiving
R: regret (repentance)
I: intercession (asking God to take a specific action)
P: plan or purpose
Reading a biblical text and then applying this method gives one a sound, simple way to form one’s prayers...not to mention that it helps one learn how to faithfully reflect on God’s Word and talk to God.
