“Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
and your dominion endures throughout all generations.” Psalm 145.13
Prayer for the week: Almighty God, Christ Jesus is the one who was, who is, and who is to
come. He will reign forever prophet, priest, and king. While we await the fulfillment
of his kingdom, grant that we may sing your praise and trust in you alone;
through your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
Bible reading for the day: Romans 1.1-7 (From Corinth in 56 AD, Paul
wrote this systematic summary of faith and life in Christ crucified and raised
for our salvation.)
1 Paul, a
servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for
the gospel of God, 2 which he promised
beforehand through his prophets in the holy Scriptures, 3 concerning
his Son, who was descended from David according to the flesh 4 and was
declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness
by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord, 5 through
whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the
obedience of faith for the sake of his name among all the nations, 6 including
you who are called to belong to Jesus Christ,
7 To all those in Rome who
are loved by God and called to be saints:
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord
Jesus Christ.
Prayer of the Day: Gracious and almighty Father, thank you: through Christ sinners like me
and your whole church have received your grace and our “sent outness” that we
and others may be rescued from ourselves and belong to him. Thank you! My sin
and pride die a hard death, so keep of this work of yours upon us Lord… that
each day the new obedience of faith may free us for your use rather than our
own. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.

What does Baptism mean for daily life?
It means that my sinful self, with all its evil deeds and desires, should be drowned through daily repentance; and that day after day a new self should arise to live with God in righteousness and purity forever.
St. Paul writes in Romans 6: “We were buried therefore
with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from
the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.”
(from The Small Catechism, by Martin Luther)
Benediction: For the Lord takes
pleasure in his people;
he adorns the humble with salvation. Psalm 149.4
*This is now
our congregation’s 99th year in the Word. In 2025, we are reading
from Genesis to Revelation, with a few interludes along the way.
